Commenting on the partial mobilization announced by Putin last week, he said the Russian president was escalating the invasion because he was not winning the war and had made a “strategic mistake”. “I think he didn’t expect the strong reactions from the free world,” he argued.

Referring to London’s disagreements with European Union, Truss said she wants a negotiated solution to the so-called Northern Ireland Protocol. He noted that he and US President Joe Biden agreed that peace should be preserved in this province of the UK and that he still believes in Britain’s “special relationship” with the US, which he wants to strengthen in the future.

When asked whether Britain would defend Taiwan militarily in the event of a Chinese invasion, Truss replied: “We are determined to work with our allies to ensure that Taiwan is able to defend itself.”
