Horror in Ukraine: Two more mass graves found in Izium, Zelensky says

by

Last week, the exhumation of the bodies of 436 people was completed. Most seem to have had a violent death.

THE Ukraine discover others two mass gravescontaining the bodies of hundreds of people in the northeastern city Iziumwhich Kyiv recaptured this month from Russia, the Ukrainian president said Volodymyr Zelensky.

Zelensky made the statement in an interview with CBS broadcast late yesterday, Sunday night, in which he also called for continued pressure on Russia with sanctions.

Russian authorities did not immediately comment on Zelensky’s statement about the discovery of two other mass graves. Moscow denies committing war atrocities in Ukraine and targeting civilians.

“Today I received more information… They found two more mass graves, large graves with hundreds of people… We are talking about the small town of Izium,” Zelensky said.

“Sanctions need to continue. These sanctions will have a political impact as well as an economic impact.”

After months of Russian occupation, Ukrainian authorities discovered one earlier this month large burial ground next to a cemetery in a wooded area in Izium and began an investigation into the circumstances of the deaths.

Last week they finished the exhumation of the bodies of 436 people. Most appear to have died violently and there are preliminary indications that 30 of them may have been tortured, the regional governor said.

17 soldiers were also exhumed from the mass grave.
