“Difficult days await us because of Conte” – Letta announced that he will not seek re-election to the leadership of the Democratic Party.
“Today is a sad day for Italy and Europe” said on Monday Enrico Leta. “Difficult days await us because of (Five Star chief Giuseppe) Conte who toppled the Draghi government, handing Italy over to the right,” he said.
Enrico Letta has announced that he does not intend to run for re-election to the leadership of the Democratic Party.
“The next government will be the most right-wing government we have ever known,” he added.
The centre-left secretary pledged that “his party will make a tough opposition to this deep right, and Italy will not abandon European principles and values”.
“Our country will remain loyal in its constitution and in its European identity” he underlined.
“We paid for staying in the government for many years. We will start a dialogue with society to create the broadest progressive front” he noted.
