Italian Press: Meloni does not intend to give Salvini a ministry

by

According to Repubblica, Meloni does not intend to choose Matteo Salvini for any of the key ministries, which could cause tension in the internal relations and balances of the conservative alliance

The winner of the Italian elections Georgia Meloni had a telephone conversation with the Italian technocrat prime minister Mario Draghias leaked by her close associates.

The president of Brothers of Italyafter her announcement on election night, did not meet with reporters for the customary post-election press conference and let some other party officials speak.

At the same time, according to the newspaper La Repubblica, Meloni does not intend to choose the secretary of the League, Matteo Salvini for one of the key ministries of the new government, which could cause tension in the internal relations and balances of the conservative alliance, since Salvini has clearly and repeatedly expressed his desire to return to the Ministry of the Interior, i.e. the same position he held in the first government of Giuseppe Conte.

The League, however, did not even touch 9% of the votes and this weakens any of his claims.

For any “fermentations”, however, there is a leeway of almost four weeks, as the new parliament will be established in a body on October 13.

Then. the president of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, will begin his consultations with all the political forces, in order to assign, immediately after, an order to form a government.

Analysts are also waiting to see how the Forza Italia boss will move, Silvio Berlusconi. He wishes to be elected president of the Senate, but his reaction on election day did not go unnoticed. When a voter asked him if Georgia Meloni scares him, he replied: “yeah, she scares me a little.”

Regarding, finally, the center-left, after the disappointing result of the Democratic Party (19%) and the statement of the secretary of the “Democrats” Enrico Leta that he will not re-contest the leadership next March, the Italian press is converging on one main finding: that it needs a long course of renewal and possible re-establishment of the centre-left, with a change of priorities and a search for meaningful contact with the citizens, to be able to overcome the current the crisis.
