Pro-Russian authorities in Ukraine’s Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhia and Kherson regions — which are partially or fully controlled by Moscow — today announced overwhelming support for the four regions to join the Russian Federation in “referendums” they held.

In Luhansk, “yes” to joining Russia gathered 98.42%, according to the final results announced by the leadership of the breakaway Ukrainian region.

In Zaporizhia, pro-Russian authorities announced that 93.11% of voters were in favor of joining the Russian Federation, with all ballots counted.

In Kherson, the pro-Moscow occupation administration announced that 87.05% voted “yes”, according to final results.

In Donetsk, where the counting has not been completed, the leadership of the breakaway Ukrainian region confirmed that “yes” prevails by an overwhelming percentage.

Ukraine has repeatedly warned that the annexation of additional territory by the Russian Federation would destroy any chance of peace talks, seven months after Moscow launched the war.

“The fake referendums organized by Russia have no legitimacy and are a flagrant violation of international law. These lands are Ukraine,” NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said in a Twitter post after a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The US and its allies will “never recognize” the annexation of Ukrainian territories by Russia, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said at a press conference.
