Ursula von der Leyen: Nord Stream leaks are due to “sabotage”

by

Earlier, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said with certainty that the leak at the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines near the Baltic island of Bornholm was due to “deliberate actions”, not an “accident”.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Tuesday that the Nord Stream pipeline leaks were caused by “sabotage” and warned that there would be “the strongest possible response” if active energy infrastructure in the EU was attacked.

“I spoke with (Danish Prime Minister Mete) Frederiksen about the act of sabotage in Nord Stream,” wrote Ursula von der Leyen in a post on Twitter, adding that it is a priority to investigate the case to “shed light on the exact circumstances and causes of the leak”.

Earlier Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said with certainty that the leak at the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines near the Baltic island of Bornholm was due to “deliberate actions”, not an “accident”.

At the same time, Sweden has launched a preliminary investigation into “sabotage” of the pipelines, which were not working but were full of gas.
