Russia’s internal security agency FSB is investigating the damage to the Nord Stream gas pipelines under the Baltic Sea as act of “international terrorism”the Russian news agency reported today Interfaxciting the attorney general’s office.

Germany, Denmark and Sweden said the attacks caused gas from two Russian gas pipelines to spill into the sea.

The countries have not said who they suspect of launching the attacks.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin said today that claims that Russia was somehow behind an attack on the Nord Stream gas pipelines were “stupid and absurd”, adding that Moscow had seen a sharp rise in the profits of US companies supplying gas to Europe. .

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said during the daily press briefing that the incident must be investigated and that the timeline for repairs to the pipelines is unclear.

Europe is investigating what Germany, Denmark and Sweden have called attacks that caused major leaks in the Baltic from Russia’s two Nord Stream gas pipelines.
