Britain: Downing Street “Christmas Party” will not be investigated due to “lack of evidence”

by

London police announced today that they will not launch an investigation into the alleged Christmas party that took place last year on Downing Street, in violation of the measures to deal with Covid-19, due to lack of evidence.

Despite the abundant “correspondence” it received about the case, police said that “due to lack of evidence” they would not launch an investigation at this stage in line with their policy of “not retroactively investigating violations of these rules”.

The “correspondence” and the video that shows Downing Street councilors joking about the issue “do not constitute evidence of violation of the rules”, the announcement continues, reminding that many gatherings took place at the prime minister’s residence in November and December 2020.

However, if evidence is collected as part of an internal investigation ordered by Prime Minister Boris Johnson, it will be sent to the police “for consideration”, the statement added.

Earlier in the day, Johnson apologized to parliament while his adviser, Allegra Stratton, submitted her resignation. In the video, which caused a political storm, Stratton and other Johnson associates joked about the Christmas party being held, although rallies were banned as part of measures to deal with the pandemic.
