Sales of the world’s most popular assault rifle are up 40 percent this year, industry president Alan Luzhnikov announced Thursday from the city of Izhevsk.

The Kalashnikov weapons industry has already recorded its best sales in 20 years this year, as its assault rifles are being bought at a “record” rate, following seven months of war in Ukraine.

Sales of its automatic assault rifles are up 40 percent this year, industry president Alan Luzhnikov announced Thursday from the city of Izhevsk. He did not give an absolute number of sales of the most popular assault rifle in the world.

The priority is supplies to the Russian Ministry of Defense, Mr. Luzhnikov pointed out.

“Guaranteeing the defense capability of the country, especially in the current conditions, is the task on which all departments of the company are focused without exception,” he said.

In addition to sales within Russia, there is also an increase in exports, according to the head of the Russian arms manufacturer. Already in September, sales abroad exceeded those recorded in the entire previous year, he assured.

“Our production capabilities are being utilized very intensively this year,” according to Mr. Luznikov. For example, it is known that the Indian armed forces are receiving 70,000 AK-103 rifles this year.

According to the state-owned arms export company Rosoboronexport, more than 100,000 Kalashnikov rifles of various types are now exported worldwide each year.

After all, the “Automat Kalashnikov”, the most widespread assault rifle on the planet, is often copied without permission.
