Ukraine: 11 civilians dead in the village of Kirillifka after the withdrawal of the Russian army

According to the Ukrainian military, who discovered the cars of civilians as well as some charred bodies, the Russians attacked a convoy.

At least eleven civilians were found dead on a street, bearing traces of bullets, after the withdrawal of Russian forces from the Kharkiv region, as a group of AFP journalists found today.

According to the Ukrainian military, who discovered the cars of civilians as well as some charred bodies, the Russians attacked a convoy.

AFP points out that it was unable to confirm this information from an independent source.

A pro-Russian separatist official accused the Ukrainian army on Thursday of opening fire on a convoy of civilians in the region, killing 30 people. However, he did not provide further details.

The motorcade seen by AFP today was on a road that starts from the village of Kirilifka, which is 70 kilometers east of Kharkiv. The bodies are still there, in or next to six cars. A minibus was completely burnt and four charred bodies can be seen on the seats – including one that appears to be a small child.

A short distance away, next to a cream-colored Lada car with the trunk open, sits a man wearing a hat and jeans.

In the back seat of a blue car, a dead old woman, wrapped in her coat, looks like she is fast asleep.

“The cars were moving together, in a procession. We see that there is almost no distance between them,” said “Filia”, a Ukrainian soldier accompanying the AFP mission. “They were shot, that’s for sure. Look at the bullet holes. They set fire to a car and it is impossible to identify those inside,” he added.

In early September, the Ukrainian army counterattacked in eastern and southern Ukraine, recapturing large areas, mainly in the Kharkov region, where Kirillivka administratively belongs.

The Russians left this village early last week. Due to the difficulties they faced, the Russian soldiers retreated to the east, on the opposite bank of the Oskil River, but the Ukrainians also managed to cross to the opposite side, achieving an important victory for Kyiv.
