Charles Michel: Europe needs an Energy Union with a truly common strategy

by

The president of the European Council in turn rejected the annexations of Ukrainian territories by Russia

“The European Union categorically rejects and condemns these illegal annexations” from Russia, the President of the European Council emphasizes. Charles Michel. “He will never recognize them, just as he did not recognize the annexation of Crimea in 2014,” he notes, while talking about the need to create an “energy union”.

Mr. Michel adds that “the European Union is and will remain resolutely on the side” of Ukraine.

In addition, the president of the European Council refers to an “energy missile” launched by Russia in Europe “targeting the heart of our economic and social system.” For this reason, he continues, “a new Energy Union must be developed, with a real common strategy. Because there is no alternative if we want to guarantee security of supply, affordability and climate transition. Today, all of us must understand that we have entered a new world where many of our reference points have been overturned. We have to deal with this situation clearly.”
