Germany will set up a joint team with Denmark and Sweden to investigate leaks found in the Nord Stream natural gas pipelines, German Interior Minister Nancy Fesser announced today.

During a teleconference with his Danish and Swedish counterparts, the German chancellor, Olaf Scholz, had stated yesterday, Friday, that his country “supports the joint investigation” of the two countries into the underwater explosions that caused them, as he noted , the leaks in the pipelines.

Feser told the Bild am Sonntag newspaper that she agreed with her Danish and Swedish counterparts that the investigation should be carried out “by a joint team within the framework of EU rules”, with the participation of members from third countries. .

“All indications point to an act of sabotage against the Nord Stream pipelines,” the German minister underlined.

Security forces are monitoring Germany’s energy infrastructure with “increased vigilance,” Feser said, though she added that, “there is no specific information about threats targeting German infrastructure.”

Feser told the Sueddeutsche Zeitung newspaper yesterday that German police are patrolling the North Sea and the Baltic “with all available forces” and in cooperation with neighboring countries after the explosions at the two pipelines.

A report submitted to the UN yesterday by Sweden and Denmark said that “based on all available information, these explosions are due to a deliberate act”, without, however, referring to a specific country.
