US President Joe Biden announced today in a phone call with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky that Washington will provide Kyiv with additional military aid worth a total of $625 million, which includes HIMARS launchers, the White House said.

Biden “pledged to continue supporting Ukraine as it defends itself against Russian aggression for as long as necessary,” the White House said.

Vice President Kamala Harris also took part in the phone call, the White House statement says. The president stressed that Washington will never recognize the annexation of Ukrainian territory to Russia, the statement added.

The four Himars launchers stand out from the new military aid package, according to the US State Department. These powerful and highly accurate rocket launcher systems have played an important role in the recent successes of the Ukrainian troops. Also included are 32 Howitzer guns, artillery ammunition and shells, mines and 200 armored vehicles.

The Russian army was retreating today in the Kharkiv region in northeastern Ukraine, as well as in the Kherson region in the south, according to maps released by the Russian Defense Ministry, showing the recent successes of the Ukrainian counter-offensive in the territories annexed by Moscow.
