CDC Africa: Compulsory Vaccination May Need – No Vaccination Eritrea

by

Eritrea has not yet launched its vaccination campaign against covid-19, the head of the African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) John Enkengasong said today.

“Eritrea is now the only country that has not joined the family of 55 (African Union) countries that are vaccinating, but we are not giving up,” Enkengasong told an online news conference.

He estimated that the governments of African countries would have no choice but to impose the mandatory vaccination against covid-19, if the citizens themselves do not choose to be immunized.

At the same time, Enkengansong complained that travel bans imposed by many countries on countries in southern Africa may affect the delivery of materials needed to deal with the epidemic on the continent.

The head of the African CDC also commented that the organization does not recommend the administration of a booster dose of covid-19 vaccine to the entire population of Africa, but mainly to the immunocompromised and the elderly.
