“To convince undecided voters that they can trust him with their future prosperity, Lula must announce a moderate economist as his choice for finance minister. He must assure farmers that he will not tolerate land invasions organized by social movements close to his party. (This is not as common as the landowners claim, but it is feared.) You must promise not to nationalize any industry. You must stop toying with the dangerous idea of interfering with Brazil’s freedom of the press.”
