The 46-year-old Chechen leader boasts in a video that the Russian president “congratulated him personally” and that for him it is a “great honor” to be promoted to general
The leader of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov and ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday that he had been awarded a higher rank in the Russian army, namely that of lieutenant general, according to the Moscow Times.
The 46-year-old Chechen leader boasts in a video that the Russian president “Thank you personally” and how it is for him “great honour” who chose him for this position. In fact, he states that he informed him “personally” about this decision.
“The President of Russia awarded me the rank of major general,” Kadyrov said on Telegram. “This is a promotion for me.”
“The president congratulated me personally. I give my word that I will honor this trust,” added Kadyrov.
The rank of major general is the third highest rank in the Russian military hierarchy.
Kadyrov earned the rank as the Ukrainian military pushed Moscow’s forces out of swathes of territory that Russia had just declared “Russian forever.”
It is recalled that Kadyrov a few days ago urged Putin to regularly use nuclear weapons, i.e. low-yield nuclear weapons, in Ukraine. At the same time, rumors want Kadyrov to even claim his position Minister of Defense of Russia.
