British celebrities complain about Daily Mail surveillance – Prince Harry and Elton John among them

The Daily Mail denied the claims, calling them “baseless” and “highly defamatory”.

THE prince harryVocalist Elton John and other famous Britons decided to take legal action against the publisher of the newspaper Daily Mailalleging wiretapping and other privacy violations, a law firm representing them said today.

Celebrities who are suing the Daily Mail are also actors Elizabeth Hurley and Sadie Frostfilm producer David Furnish (partner of Elton John) and Doreen Lawrence, mother of teenager Stephen Lawrence who lost his life in a racist attack in 1993.

The Associated Newspapers group, which owns the Daily Mail, denied the allegationscalling them “baseless” and “highly defamatory”.

The plaintiffs have evidence against the Associated Newspers Group for privacy violations, according to the law firm Hamlins. He mentions placing bedbugs in cars and houses, as well as monitoring telephone conversations.

Law firm Hamlins is representing Prince Harry and actress Sadie Frost. Elton John, David Furnish, Elizabeth Harley and Doreen Lawrence are represented by Gunnercooke.

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan fell out with the British tabloids after the couple married in 2018. They had made it clear they wanted nothing to do with four major newspapers, including the Daily Mail, accusing them of lying.

The suffocating pressure they felt from the media was one of the reasons cited by the Harry-Meghan couple to explain why they made the decision to step down from royal duties and move to the United States.
