Also, the number of Ukrainian refugees arriving in Poland rose by 9,990, according to Eurostat, while increasing inflows were also recorded in France and Romania

More than a million Ukrainians have fled to Germany since the Russian invasion began in February, according to the interior ministry.

A total of 1,002,763 people have been registered in the country so far, Interior Minister Nancy Feiser told news website T-Online today.

“We saved the lives of many women and children from Ukraine,” the minister emphasized. “We have managed this mammoth shipment well so far,” compared with previous times when Germany saw a large influx of refugees, he added.

“The longer the war lasts, the more difficult it is to host and care for so many refugees,” he stressed.

Regarding the number of Ukrainian refugees in Germany, however, it is not clear how many of those who entered the country have already left.

New figures released today by Eurostat show that Poland accepted most Ukrainians who escaped in August, 67,280 citizens, followed by 62,140 who arrived in Germany in the same month. At the same time, approximately 9,715 people were registered in Romania, 6,410 at France and 6,165 in Spain, seeking protection in these countries.

Compared to the previous month, the number of Ukrainian refugees arriving in Poland increased by 9,990according to Eurostat, while increasing inflows were also recorded in France and Romania.

In 12 of the 22 EU member states for which Eurostat has reliable data, the number of those seeking temporary protection fell in August, most notably in Bulgaria, where there were almost 2,000 fewer arrivals compared to the previous month.

According to the Polish government, some 1.3 million Ukrainian refugees were still living in the country in September, after the prime minister Mateusz Morawiecki it had spoken for more than 2 million in June.

This is because more and more Ukrainian refugees are returning to their country, which shares a 500km border with Poland, Warsaw said in September.
