East Jerusalem: Three wounded by unknown gunfire at a checkpoint

by

A police spokesman said in a statement that “a terrorist shot the two Israelis, seriously injuring them” at a checkpoint near the Palestinian refugee camp of Suafat.

Two Israelis were wounded by bullets Saturday night at a checkpoint in occupied East Jerusalem, police said in what they called a “terrorist” attack.

Another person – his nationality was not specified – was injured by shrapnel, according to Magen David Adom (Mada), Israel’s equivalent of the Red Cross.

A police spokesman said in a statement that “a terrorist shot the two Israelis, seriously injuring them” at a checkpoint near the Palestinian refugee camp of Suafat.

The injured are about 20 years old. “It is a woman who is hospitalized in critical condition and a man who is in serious condition,” Mada said. The third injured person was given first aid on the spot, he added, without elaborating further.

Police are looking for a suspect who fled the scene. A helicopter and special forces men are involved in the manhunt. The area has been cordoned off by police and dozens of officers have been deployed around the outpost and inside the refugee camp.
