War in Ukraine: India does not reveal what its stance will be at the UN General Assembly

by

The General Assembly is expected to consider the draft resolution tomorrow Tuesday or the day after Wednesday, according to diplomatic sources.

India will not announce in advance what it will vote on at the upcoming United Nations General Assembly to discuss a draft resolution condemning the annexation of four regions of Ukraine, Indian Minister Subramanian Jaishankar said today.

“For reasons of prudence and policy, we are not announcing how we will vote in advance,” Mr Jaishankar said when asked during a joint press conference with Penny Wong, his Australian counterpart, in Canberra.

The General Assembly is expected to consider the draft resolution tomorrow Tuesday or the day after Wednesday, according to diplomatic sources.

Russia exercised its veto in the UN Security Council when an identical text drawn up by the US and Albania was tabled for a vote in late September to condemn the annexation. China, India, Brazil and Gabon were far behind.
