Tourism in the country showed “unexpected success” in 2022, as according to the British newspaper, it is expected to surpass even 2019

In the strategic planning of the Ministry of Tourism, which aims to extend this season, as well as to attract northern European retirees and digital nomads in the autumn and winter months, the Guardian refers in its publication.

The British newspaper, in its extensive report, points out that in 2022 Greek tourism is an unexpected success with travel receipts and arrivals expected to exceed those of 2019 – a record year – when the country attracted approximately 33.1 million tourists and more than 18 billion euros in revenue.

“Our doors are open 12 months a year, our friends in Northern Europe, who can come to Greece in the winter, should know this,” Greek Minister of Tourism Vassilis Kikilias emphasized in his statements. As the Guardian points out, this is the first time that Greece has made a concerted effort to advertise itself as a winter destination, with Vassilis Kikilia having worked for months to implement this initiative. In September he visited Paris, Berlin, Vienna and Stockholm to get the message across, making contacts with airlines, tour operators, pension funds and federations.

As part of these efforts, there will be promotional actions that will also concern airlines and tour operators. At the same time, next week will start campaign in London and other European capitals with a poster “Do you want to feel 20 years old again?’ As indicated characteristically the article of the British newspaper, the poster depicts an elderly couple on a sailboat enjoying their wine and finding their lost youth in Greece.
