Ukrainian forces have been waging a counter-offensive for weeks in the region that Moscow has controlled since the first weeks of the war and claims to have annexed after the referendum.

The rediscovery of an additional five regions in “Russian” Kherson Kyiv announced today.

The Ukrainian presidency announced this morning that the Ukrainian forces recaptured five locations in the southern region of Kherson – which Moscow claims it annexed after the referendum – forcing Russian troops to retreat.

“The armed forces of Ukraine liberated five more locations in the Berislav region of the Kherson region: Novovasilivka, Novogrigorivka, Nova Kamianka, Trifonivka, Cervone,” the Ukrainian presidency said in a statement.

Ukrainian forces have been conducting a counter-offensive in this region for weeks, which its forces Moscow control since the first weeks of the war.

After meeting strong Russian resistance, the Ukrainian army in early October regained significant territory in the Kherson region, mainly on the banks of the Dnieper, south of the industrial city of Kriviy Rig.

In fact, Kyiv has repeatedly targeted bridges to disrupt the logistical supply of Russian forces.

Kherson region is one of four Ukrainian regions annexed by Moscow in a decision denounced by Kyiv and its Western allies.
