Russia has committed war crimes that have left their mark, President Macron said in an interview. He reiterated that the only way out of the current crisis is to return to the negotiating table.

Russia has committed war crimes that have left their mark, French President Emmanuel Macron told France 2 television, while calling on Vladimir Putin to “stop this war, respect Ukraine’s territorial integrity and return to the table of the negotiations”.

The French president also said that, after the latest Russian bombings, the Ukrainian crisis has escalated and that Moscow, by hitting cities and energy infrastructure, aims to end all Ukrainian resistance. He also emphasized that France will continue to strengthen Ukraine in every way without, however, getting involved in the war, because as he characteristically stated “France does not wish for a world war”.

Asked to comment on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recent threats of nuclear war, Emmanuel Macron underlined that “Russia has nuclear weapons, as does France”, adding that “the less we talk about them and the less we use them to threaten, the more reliable we become.”

Emmanuel Macron also said that he will continue to talk to Vladimir Putin whenever he deems it necessary and reiterated that the only way out of the current crisis is to return to the negotiating table. Something that, as he noted, will be to the benefit of both Russia and Ukraine. He predicted, however, that hostilities would continue for several more months, warning that “we will spend the winter in a state of war.”

At another point in the interview, Mr. Macron emphasized that France will strengthen Ukraine’s armed forces with new anti-aircraft defense systems.

“We will send radars and missiles for air defense in order to protect Ukrainians from attacks, especially drone attacks,” he said.

He also reiterated that he is considering the delivery of additional CAESAR self-propelled guns: “We have already delivered 18” since the start of the war, “we are working on the delivery of another six, in cooperation with Denmark,” he said.

Even the French president stressed that France stands “by the side” of the protesters in Iran.

Asked about the wave of protests that have rocked Iran for about a month, President Macron expressed his “admiration” for “the women and young people” protesting after the death of 22-year-old Mahsha Amini who had been arrested by police. morals of Tehran.

The French president said the protesters in Iran show “the universality of our values”. “We stand by those who fight for these values,” he added.
