Russia: Ukraine joining NATO could lead to World War III

by

At the end of September, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky submitted a request to NATO for his country’s accession to the Alliance with fast-track procedures.

Ukraine’s accession to NATO could lead to World War III, the deputy secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation warned on Thursday. Alexander Benedictov, in an interview with the Russian state news agency TASS.

“Kyiv is well aware that such a move would certainly mean an escalation into a World War III,” he stressed.

“Obviously they’re counting on it, to create media buzz and draw attention back to themselves,” added Venediktov.

The Russian official also reiterated Russia’s position that the West aiding Ukraine suggests it is “directly involved in the conflict.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky submitted at the end of September request to NATO for his country’s fast-track entry into the Alliance, in response to Russia’s annexation of four regions of Eastern Ukraine through fraudulent referendums.
