Members of the Norwegian National Guard have been deployed to Kaarstøe and other major energy export facilities
Norwegian police are today investigating reports that a drone was seen flying over the Kaarstoe gas processing plant in southwestern Norway, in a possible breach of safety protocols, the Stavanger Aftenblad newspaper reports.
The local police were not yet able to comment on this news.
Members of the Norwegian National Guard have been deployed at Kaarstøe and other major energy export facilities since authorities stepped up security at the country’s oil and gas facilities following leaks detected on September 26 in the Nord Stream gas pipelines.
Even before the Nord Stream incidents, Norway’s Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) had warned that energy companies should be alert for drones of unknown origin.
Police responded yesterday, Thursday, to a threat made by phone at the Nyhamna gas plant, which, along with those in Kaarstøe and some other Norwegian units, is among Europe’s largest energy exporting facilities.
Norway is now Europe’s biggest natural gas supplier after a significant cut in flows from Russia.
