King Willem-Alexander spoke of a “very tough” situation during an official visit to Sweden.

Crown Princess Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands has left her student apartment in Amsterdam and returned to the royal palace due to concerns for her safety, the royal family announced.

King Willem-Alexander spoke of a “very tough” situation during an official visit to Sweden.

“It has a huge impact on her life. It means he won’t be in Amsterdam and also that he can’t really go out,” Queen Máxima added.

Amalia started studies at the University of Amsterdam in Political Science, Psychology and Economics in September.

She had moved into a small student apartment in Amsterdam and – according to the royal couple – concerns about her safety forced her to return to the Huis ten Bos royal palace in The Hague.

“The consequences are very difficult for her. He doesn’t have a student life like other students have. It’s not nice to see your child living like this,” said Queen Maxima.

The prime minister, Mark Rutte, expressed his “concern,” according to Dutch public broadcaster NOS.
