New research: Europeans prefer Jeeps – Which models are the first to sell

SUVs are the first preferences of European drivers

European drivers’ preference for SUVs for another month remained high, as almost 48% of new vehicle registrations in Europe were for this category. The Volkswagen group led last August in the SUV category, with a percentage of 28%. The German company recorded a sales increase of 16%, mainly thanks to the Volkswagen T-Roc, which is currently the best-selling vehicle in Europe, but also having the successful models Tiguan, ID.4 and Taigo next to it.

In second place is Stellantis in the SUV category, down 9%. The registrations of Peugeot 3008 (-39%), Opel Grandland (-29%), Citroën C5 Aircross (-16%), Jeep Renegade and Compass (-42% and -53% respectively) decreased. Nevertheless, the positive performance of Peugeot 2008 (+27%), Opel Mokka (+25%) and Opel Crossland (+21%) ensured Stellantis the second place in the SUV market. In contrast, the group led the market in the B segment, with a 32% share, due to the continued success of the Peugeot 208.

Assessing the data, it is found that 20% of BEVs registered in August in Europe were manufactured in China, the second most popular country of origin after Germany (28%). Registrations of Chinese BEVs are up 78% compared to August 2021, while those made in Europe are up just 17%.

The Volkswagen T-Roc led the overall model ranking. He captured her first class the previous August with 15,953 sales, recording an increase of 43%, followed by the Peugeot 208 with 15,146 sales (+92%). A little further behind was the Dacia Sandero (14,830 units, -1%), the Fiat/Abarth 500 (13,593 units +24%), the Toyota Yaris (13,580 units, +9%), the Volkswagen Golf (12,271 units, -10 %), the Citroen C3 (11,834 units, +80%), the Opel Corsa (11,815 units, +60%), the Skoda Octavia (11,238 units, +38%) and the Hyundai Tucson (10,866 units, +12%) .

Sta hybrid models the most popular was the Ford Kuga with 3,721 units recording a sales increase of 6%, followed by the Hyundai Tucson with a total of 2,504 units achieving a 33% increase, while in 3rd place was the Kia Sportage with 2,177 units. Further behind were the models: Lynk & Co 01 (2,090 units, +276%), BMW X5 (2,013 units, +30%), Volkswagen Tiguan (1,837 units, +127%), Mercedes CLA (1,573 units, +78% ), Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross (1,508 units, +138%), BMW Series 3 (1,481 units, -37%) and BMW X3 (1,461 units, -15%).

Finally, the most loved ones electrical models attracting interest in Europe and reflected in sales last August are: Tesla Model Y (6935 units, +98%), Volkwagen ID.4 (5,583 units, +20%), Skoda Enyaq (4,394 units, +23% ), Fiat 500 (3,992 units, +26%), Dacia Spring (3,699 units), Volkswagen ID.3 (3,638 units, -54%), Tesla Model 3 (2,930 units, -63%), Cupra Born (2,838 units ), Peugeot 208 (2,785 units, +31%) and Hyundai Kona (2,618 units, -2%).
