Lorenzo Fontana, vice president of the League, was elected president of the Italian Parliament, as announced a while ago in the official count.

According to the figures so far, Fontana has already collected 201 of the 400 total votes.

Fontana is 42 years old and is considered one of the most extreme strains of the League. In the past, he has been, in the first government of Giuseppe Conte, minister of European affairs and responsible for matters concerning Italian families. From 2009 to 2018 he was an MEP, always with the League party.

Graduated in Philosophy, has characterized abortion as “the first cause of femicide in the world” while he objected in the passing of cohabitation agreements and the introduction of sex education in Italian schools. Referring to Vladimir Putin, he has stated that “he is a benchmark for anyone who believes in a model of society with a clear identity.”

Finally, as the leader of the centrist party Azione (Action) Carlo Calenda wrote on Twitter, Fontana, in 2016, had sent congratulatory videotaped message at the Golden Dawn conference.
