The reaction of the finance minister of Britain after his expulsion from Tras

by

“You asked me to step aside as your finance minister. I accepted,” Kwazi Kwarteng wrote, among other things, in a letter to Truss, which he made public on Twitter.

Britain’s Chancellor of the Exchequer Quasi Kwarteng confirmed today that he has been sacked by Prime Minister Liz Truss — the third Chancellor of the Exchequer to leave the government this year.

“You asked me to step aside as your finance minister. I accepted,” Kwarteng wrote in a letter to Truss, which he posted on Twitter.

His removal comes after media reports that he was ousted ahead of a Tras news conference where he is expected to scrap parts of the government’s economic package in a bid to survive the political turmoil and market turmoil gripping the country.

“It is important now to move forward to underline the Government’s commitment to fiscal discipline. The Medium-Term Budget Plan is critical to this, and I look forward to supporting you and my successor to achieve this from the backbenches,” he parliament, Kwarteng said.
