Ron de Sandys: Trump’s “favorite child” his main opponent for the presidency?

by

Donald Trump’s desire to return to the White House is no secret. However, another Republican candidate appears to be particularly popular. His profile.

The governor of Florida has a lot to do these days, after Hurricane Ian left a massive devastation in its wake. THE Ron de Sandys emerged as a worthy crisis manager. Every day he traveled with his 44-year-old wife Casey to the disaster areas and promised help. Ron de Sandys is in the midst of an election campaign. In the US election in November, the Republican politician wants to be re-elected as governor. He is also considered the former President’s biggest intra-party rival for the 2024 presidential elections Donald Trump.

Natural disasters sometimes decide a political career. However, it is still too early to predict the political consequences of the disaster in Florida. But one thing is certain. The hurricane devastation gives the governor an opportunity to present himself as a crisis manager.

Sharp and difficult opponent

He distributes water and food to people whose homes have been destroyed, greets and hugs people who have lost everything. He uploads photos of actions on his Twitter account. He is also making a sort of truce with the Democrats and US President Joe Biden. When Biden visited Fort Myers, Florida, the two appeared together and spoke politely thanking each other.

Because de Sandys usually does what he can to make life difficult for Biden. His campaign to fly immigrants from the US border to the popular and secular Democratic island of Martha’s Vineyard made headlines. Above all, he wanted to protest Biden’s immigration policy. The Democrats, for their part, accuse him of abusing cheap policies.

Trump’s favorite child…

Before being elected governor in Florida four years ago, de Sandys was an ordinary member of the House of Representatives. When he began campaigning for governor in 2018, he was considered the favorite child of then-President Trump. Like Trump, de Sandys belongs to the right wing of the party. He, a father of three, passed a law banning sex education from kindergarten to third grade.

A recurring theme in his appearances is also the increase in crime by illegal immigrants, but he does not cite specific figures. De Sandys has similar hard-line positions to Trump, but he dislikes scandals, loss of control and chaos. He is seen as more disciplined and smarter than Trump within the party. According to some political observers, this makes him even more dangerous. De Sandys attended elite universities such as Yale and Harvard. In addition, he was in the Navy and participated in the Iraq campaign.

The meeting with Biden in Fort Myers shows that he is at least seeking a more cultured approach with others. Unlike Trump, he feels bound by social and political conventions and finally seems to find many supporters.
