“Henceforth, our military will never allow any provocation by enemies who are escalating military tension on the Korean Peninsula,” North Korea said and threatened “overwhelming military countermeasures.”
North Korea has warned it will take “overwhelming military countermeasures” to South Korea’s “deliberate provocations” amid escalating tensions in the region, with a barrage of ballistic missile launches by the Pyongyang regime in recent weeks.
The stark warning came a day after a North Korean military spokesman fired a short-range ballistic missile and fired artillery near the border with South Korea. According to the same official, who has not been named, the artillery fire was a warning about the “enemy’s repeated provocations on the border,” North Korea’s KCNA news agency reported.
“Henceforth, our military will never allow any provocation by enemies who are escalating military tension on the Korean Peninsula,” he said, threatening “overwhelming military countermeasures.”
North Korean fighter jets flew near the border of the two countries on Friday and South Korean air force jets took off to intercept them.
