London, Thanasis Gavos
Reports in the British media about the elaboration of a package of additional measures against the Omicron variant of the coronavirus that could be implemented with the new year.
As of today, Friday, the first part of the so-called “plan B” has entered into force in England, ie the extended obligation to use a mask indoors. Now, in addition to retail stores and transportation, the mask is required in theaters, cinemas, places of worship, museums, galleries and community centers. They are still not mandatory in restaurants such as restaurants and pubs and gyms.
From Monday, the directive for work from home will come into force again when this is possible, while from Wednesday the vaccination certificates for entering places with large crowds, more than 500 for indoor and over 4,000 for outdoor events will return ( negative antigen tests will also be accepted).
However, according to the Daily Mail, the British government is already preparing a “plan C” for January in case Omicron has started to prevail without being able to control it.
The additional measures are said to provide entry to pubs and restaurants by scanning the NHS code to track down cases, use a mask in all indoor areas, ie in the restaurant, as well as display a vaccination certificate in more areas.
The Telegraph adds that even before Christmas, restrictions on visits to nursing homes could be imposed, with only three people allowed for each guest in these structures.
Sky News also reports on a “B plus plan” with a view to coming into force in January.
It is noted that the measures of plan B expire on January 26, although their validity will have been re-evaluated on January 5.
Public health authorities in Scotland, meanwhile, said late Thursday that locals were “urged” to cancel any Christmas parties they could hold, amid fears that the Omicron variant could spread.
