At least 13 people, including three children, died in the crash on Monday military aircraft in an apartment building in southern Russia, Russian news agencies reported today citing the emergency response ministry.

“The rescue crews have completed the search of the wreckage (…). In total, 13 people are dead, among them three children, while 19 people are injured,” the ministry explained.

Horrific images taken by eyewitnesses have been uploaded to social media sites: they show a giant fire spreading through much of the block of flats. According to the emergency response ministry, the flames spread to five of the nine floors of the property, which covers an area of ​​approximately 2,000 square meters.

According to Russia’s Defense Ministry, the two-man crew of the bomber, whose design is based on the Su-27, managed to use their ejection seats. According to the same source, they were conducting a training flight when they encountered a technical problem, as “one of the engines caught fire during take-off”.
