Charleroi Airport (Brussels South Charleroi Airport – BSCA), the second largest in passenger traffic in Belgium, is suspending departures tomorrow Wednesday due to a strike by members of the security service, as announced by the management of BSCA.
Today continued for the second day in a row the suffering of the traveling public at the airport of Charleroi, due to the strike of the employees of the company Security Masters, which is mainly charged with the screening of travelers before their boarding.
Incidents were reported of queues forming outside the airport’s largest terminal.
“Police officers were beaten while trying to remove fainting passengers,” Hervé Françain, secretary general of the airport’s administration, told AFP.
Thus, the management of Charleroi airport, which is the main base of the Irish low-cost airline Ryanair, has decided to suspend departures tomorrow, Wednesday, October 19.
“We ask the passengers who were going to travel not to come to the airport. Instead, arrivals will be served as normal,” the BSCA management statement said on the airport’s website.
At the same time, passengers who will not be able to travel are asked to contact their airline in order to reschedule their trip.
According to Belgian media, Security Masters employees went on strike yesterday Monday because subsidiary BSCA Security decided to share security services with another provider.
Passenger traffic at Charleroi Airport, which serves more than 190 destinations – mainly in the Mediterranean basin – is estimated at around eight million travelers per year.
