The European Union has temporarily agreed to impose sanctions over the use of Iranian-made drones in Russian raids in Ukraine, according to three European diplomats.

Sanctions experts agreed to add eight more people and entities to the “black” list after a meeting they had earlier today. The list will be finalized this afternoon to be ready for the meeting of European leaders starting late on Thursday.

Nabila Massrali, representative of the EU’s foreign policy chief, Joseph Borel said: “Now that we have gathered our own sufficient evidence, work is underway in the (European) Council with a view to a clear, swift and firm response from the EU”

Last Monday, Josep Borrell reported that evidence was still being gathered about Russia’s alleged use of Iranian drones. Ukraine has reported a series of Russian attacks by Iranian Shahed-136 drones in recent weeks. However, Iran denies supplying drones to Russia, while the Kremlin has not commented.
