The Palestinian wanted for the deadly October 8 attack on a checkpoint in occupied East Jerusalem was killed today while attempting an attack outside a Jewish settlement in the West Bank, Israeli authorities said.

Guards at the entrance to the Jewish settlement of Maale Adumim opened fire on the gunman, who fell dead, according to police. One of the guards was injured during the exchange of fire.

Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid said the victim was the perpetrator of the attack at a checkpoint near Shuafat (a Palestinian refugee camp). The October 8 attack killed one Israeli soldier and wounded three others.
