France: Workers end strikes at TotalEnergies facilities

by

After four weeks of strikes and after the government partially requisitioned staff, the workers stop the mobilizations

The workers in TotalEnergies called off strikes at all but two of the company’s French sites today, a CGT union spokesman told Reuters, adding that morning shift workers at the Normandy and Feyzen refineries were the only ones continuing to strike.

While around one in five gas stations in France still face fuel shortagessupplies are improving as the government increased imports and he demanded some staff after nearly four weeks of strikes.

“We have recently seen a significant improvement in the situation,” government spokesman Olivier Veran told LCI television, adding that authorities would continue the restrictions “as long as necessary.”

Morning shift workers at TotalEnergies’ La Mede refinery and a fuel storage facility in Dunkirk chose to return to their jobs, the CGT union spokesman said. The workers at the Donze refinery took the same decision yesterday, Wednesday.

The situation at the two sites where the strike continues could change around noon, when workers will gather before the start of the new shift and vote on whether to continue the strike.

Earlier this month TotalEnergies concluded an agreement on the salarys with most of its unions, which includes a 7 percent wage increase next year, according to the company.

The CGT union, which had been demanding a 10% increase, did not approve the deal, but the mood to continue strike action appears to be waning.
