A little girl was tragically killed and her mother seriously injured when a giraffe, which it thought was protecting her newborn, attacked them at a wildlife sanctuary in South Africa.
The 25-year-old mother and her 16-month-old daughter were staying with their father at Kuleni Game Farm, which is famous for its nature trails.
The park is home to giraffes, zebras and promises guests of the accommodation, which costs £150 per night, a “safe environment”, according to what the park claims.
The tragedy is being investigated by South African police and animal experts to find out exactly what happened and why the mother and daughter were attacked by the giraffe.
The seriously injured mother and her daughter were rushed to the hospital, but, unfortunately, the doctors were unable to save the little girl. The young mother was taken to the hospital’s intensive care unit, where she is fighting for her life.
