Fishermen retrieve corpse two weeks after boatwreck off Calais

by

More than two weeks after the sinking of a migrant boat off the French Channel in the English Channel, in which 27 people were killed, fishermen retrieved a corpse caught in their nets off the port of Calais.

After informing the port corps, the fishing boat returned to Kale yesterday. The French gendarmerie received the body; the prosecutor in Boulogne-sur-Mer began an investigation.

Efforts will be made to initially determine whether the body is linked to the November 24 shipwreck.

The inflatable began to lose air as it tried to travel the distance from northern France to Britain and the migrants fell into the sea.

Among the victims, who were pulled into the middle of the strait, were five women and a little girl.

Two survivors made serious allegations against both the British and French authorities. As the boat sank, they contacted both the French port and the British police. Each side referred to the other; neither did the slightest thing to help, these people said.

The refugee crisis in Calais has been going on for years. After the shipwreck, France and Britain are discussing tackling the growing number of migrants arriving in Britain via the English Channel. But no solution appears on the horizon.
