Ukraine: Former head of aircraft engine manufacturer charged with treason

The former owner of a well-known aircraft engine manufacturer in central Ukraine has been arrested and charged with high treason, Ukrainian media reported Saturday, citing sources close to the security forces.

Vyacheslav Bohuslaev, “honorary chairman” of Motor Sich, in the city of Zaporizhia, the capital of Zaporizhia province, was taken into custody and taken to Kyiv in a motorcade, according to reports.

Ukrainian media reported that Mr. Bochushlaev, a former member of the Ukrainian parliament, allegedly cooperated with Russian forces holding parts of four Ukrainian regions and offered them assistance.

The city of Zaporizhia remains under the control of the Ukrainian armed forces. The region of the same name is one of four that Russia announced it had annexed, a move not recognized by the international community.

Journalist Irina Romaliska, in her Facebook post, also cited sources in the Ukrainian security services as saying that Mr. Bohuslaev is known to have a pro-Russian stance, allegedly supplying Russia with helicopter and aircraft parts and having contacts with Russian intelligence services. .

Motor Sich is a well-known manufacturer of aircraft engines, and also produces industrial turbines. In 2021, Ukrainian authorities prevented attempts by Chinese companies to acquire it.
