“In the first cabinet we exchanged a few words with the new ministers of the interior, Piadendozzi, and of foreign affairs, Tajani. The point is that we have to save lives, as the main priority, but it is not possible for all the ships in the world to reach Italy,” he said Salvini.

The League’s secretary and Italy’s new infrastructure minister, Matteo Salvini, addressed migrant management during an interview on Rai public television.

“In the first cabinet we exchanged a few words with the new ministers of the interior, Piadendozzi, and of foreign affairs, Tajani. The point is that we have to save lives, as the main priority, but it is not possible for all the ships in the world to reach Italy,” he said Salvini.

“We will once again become a country that manages to enforce respect for its borders,” added the League’s secretary and infrastructure minister.

It is recalled that, initially, the Italian press had underlined that Matteo Salvini would not be in charge of the country’s ports and in general the management of immigration. After the formation of the Meloni government, however, his movements show that he wants to manage to include the supervision of port facilities in his responsibilities.
