Two women were killed when their houses collapsed in the town of Rosamorada, and a 74-year-old man died in Santiago Ixquindla, 40 kilometers away.
At least three people have died as Tropical Storm Roslin swept through coastal states in western Mexico.
While Roslin was classified as a Category 3 hurricane on Sunday morning when it hit the sparsely populated state of Nayarit, the popular tourist resorts of Sayulita and Punta Mita were spared, and it later weakened as it gradually moved northeast.
Civil Protection officials said two women were killed when their houses collapsed in the town of Rosamorada and a 74-year-old man died in Santiago Ixquindla, 40 kilometers away.
Tropical Storm Roslyn destroyed homes, uprooted trees, overturned cars and caused widespread flooding.
Laura Velasquez, head of civil protection, said army forces were deployed to the affected areas to help clear areas of debris. He also said that many residents had to move to shelters. “The evacuations had a very significant impact, residents were ready to move away,” he told a news conference.
Public utility CFE reported Monday that it was able to restore power to 71 percent of the roughly 180,000 affected households and businesses in the states of Nayarit, Jalisco and Sinaloa.
