Footage shows the Russian defense minister telling Putin that the drills are about “responding with a massive missile strike by the strategic strike forces in response to an enemy nuclear strike.”

As the debate between Ukraine and Moscow over the “dirty bomb” heats up, Russian President Vladimir Putin watched today, Wednesday, an exercise of the strategic nuclear forces of Russia, the Kremlin announced.

“The missions envisaged during the exercise of the strategic deterrence forces were fully fulfilled, all the missiles hit their target,” the Kremlin statement said.

Footage broadcast by the military news network Zvedza shows Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to tell Putin that the drills are about “responding with a massive missile strike by strategic strike forces in response to an enemy nuclear strike.”

Chief of Staff Valery Gerasimov told Putin that the exercise included Yars ICBMssubmarines and Tupolev strategic bombers.

Russian officials have repeatedly accused Ukraine in recent weeks of planning to use a “dirty bomb” — a bomb laced with radioactive materials. They have not provided evidence to support their claim.

Putin accuses Ukraine of ‘dirty bomb’

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin said today that Russia is considering Ukraine’s plans to use a “dirty bomb”, repeating an unsubstantiated accusation repeated by Moscow in recent days.

Speaking at a meeting with intelligence chiefs from several former Soviet countries, Putin said the risk of a conflict around the world and in the region was high and that security around critical infrastructure needed to be strengthened.

Earlier, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu held talks with his Indian counterpart and conveyed to him “Moscow’s concerns” about possible provocations by Ukraine using a “dirty bomb”.
