Projection in NY says goodbye to Bolsonaro in seven languages to three election days

by

Bye. Goodbye Goodbye. A 76-meter-high projection in downtown Manhattan, in New York, printed images of President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) interspersed with the word “goodbye” in seven different languages this Thursday (27th).

The urban intervention, carried out three days before the second round of the Brazilian election, is the work of Brazilian and American activists who prefer to remain anonymous for fear of retaliation and risks to the physical integrity of members of the group. The images were projected on the blind gable of the Hilton hotel.

In addition to the “goodbyes” to Bolsonaro, the projections made other criticisms of the president and his political sons. One of them shows photos of Flávio, Carlos and Eduardo Bolsonaro next to the expression “crime family” — criminal family, in free translation.

The three are targets of suspicions that include embezzlement of public funds, hiring phantom employees, buying real estate with cash payment and involvement in organizing anti-democratic demonstrations. They deny wrongdoing.

An image of former military police officer Ronnie Lessa was also used, accused of being the author of the shots that killed Rio councilor Marielle Franco in 2018, a resident of the same condominium where Bolsonaro has a house in Barra da Tijuca.

Former PM Adriano Magalhães da Nóbrega, accused of leading a group of hired killers belonging to a militia in Rio das Pedras, Rio, also appears among the images, in a montage that reads: “Live money, dead people”.

Nóbrega had a sister and ex-wife employed as employees in Flávio Bolsonaro’s office when he was a state deputy, identified as a stronghold of ghost employees. He was also honored by the son of the current president. A fugitive, Nóbrega was killed during a siege of the house where he was hiding, in Bahia, in February 2020.

The expression “cash cash” still refers to the UOL report that pointed out the use of cash resources by Bolsonaro and his family members in the purchase of real estate. The president denies irregularities and said, days after the publication of the text, he does not see any problems in practice, pointed out by experts as a means of money laundering.

In a note, the activists responsible for the projection in New York inform that, on the eve of the elections, they want to draw the attention of the world and Brazilians to the alleged relations of the Bolsonaro family with the Rio de Janeiro militias, in the figures of Lessa and Nóbrega.

For the group, the world already recognizes Bolsonaro “for his disastrous handling of the pandemic, for his ‘laissez-faire’ in relation to environmental crimes and for his anti-democratic positions, but little is yet known about his proximity to organized crime”.

Similar interventions criticizing the president had already been made in New York when the politician traveled to the city to attend the UN General Assembly last month and in September 2021.
