The Russian delegation that has been participating since the beginning of August in Istanbul in the inspections of ships carrying Ukrainian grain will withdraw “for an indefinite period of time”, announced this evening the Joint Coordination Center (JCC), which is tasked with overseeing this international agreement that signed in the summer.

“The delegation of the Russian Federation notified (…) that it is suspending its participation in the implementation of the Initiative’s activities, including inspections for an indefinite period of time,” the JCC said in a statement.

The Black Sea Grains Initiative was signed on July 22 in Turkey and since then several million tons of wheat, maize, sunflower oil, oats, canola and soybeans have been exported from Ukraine.

Moscow announced yesterday that it was suspending its participation in the summer UN-brokered agreement to export grain from Ukrainian Black Sea ports, following the attack on its fleet in Crimea.
