The shots wounded a colleague in the leg
A drunk police officer shot seven times with his service weapon inside a Geneva police station and injured a colleague in the leg. The incident took place last Friday, but was made known today by the local authorities.
The officer, who serves in the Narcotics Enforcement Unit, opened fire inside the Carl-Vogt police station in downtown Geneva for reasons authorities did not specify, citing an ongoing investigation.
The man “under influence of alcohol” fired seven times with his service weapon in the presence of five of his colleagues. “One was hit by a bullet in the leg and had to be operated on,” prosecutors said.
When asked by AFP, the prosecution did not want to go into other details about the incident, in particular about the level of alcohol found in the policeman’s blood at the time of the incident.
After his statement to the prosecutor, the officer was released on bail. Among other things, he is accused of “endangering the lives of others and causing bodily harm by negligence”, the prosecutor’s office underlined.
