Agreement on the transfer of grain: Moscow is asking for guarantees from Kyiv to come back

by

Putin will consider the issue after the investigation into the attack on the Sevastopol fleet is completed

Russian President Vladimir Putin told his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan that he wants “real guarantees” from Kiev regarding compliance with the agreement on the export of Ukrainian grain from Ukrainian Black Sea ports, from which Moscow withdrew.

In the telephone conversation he had with Erdogan, Mr Putin said it was “necessary” to receive from Kyiv “real guarantees regarding strict respect for the Istanbul agreements and above all that the humanitarian corridor will not be used for military purposes,” the Kremlin said in a statement.

The Russian president also said Moscow would consider returning to the deal only after an investigation into attacks by Ukrainian drones and naval vessels on its Russian fleet in Sevastopol was completed.

Couple of minutes ago, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu discussed this deal in a phone call, the second in 48 hours, with his Turkish counterpart Hulusi Akar.
