US President Joe Biden, speaking about the country’s legislative elections to be held next week, warned this Wednesday (2) that the indication of Republican candidates that they can refuse to accept the results is a ” way to chaos”.
Part of the speech, made on Wednesday night, was anticipated by the White House to the press. “There are candidates running at all levels of office in the US who are not committed to accepting the results of the elections in which they participate,” he said. “This is the path to chaos in the country. It’s unprecedented. It’s illegal and un-American. You can’t just love your country when you win.”
Speaking six days before the midterm elections, the president pointed out that 2022 is not a normal year.
“In a normal year, we are not often faced with the question of whether the vote we cast will preserve democracy or jeopardize it.”
The consensus among election watchers is that Democrats are likely to lose control of the House of Representatives under the Republican advance in next Tuesday’s election. The party’s minimal majority in the Senate is also hanging by a thread.
