Russian protest to the British consul over the drone attack in Crimea

“The press stressed that such confrontational actions by the British threatened to escalate the situation and could lead to unpredictable and dangerous consequences,” the ministry said in a statement.

Russia’s foreign ministry said on Thursday it had issued a protest to the British ambassador after calling on her to explain her claim that British experts were involved in a Ukrainian drone attack on Russia’s Black Sea fleet in Crimea.

“The press stressed that such confrontational actions by the British threatened to escalate the situation and could lead to unpredictable and dangerous consequences,” the ministry said in a statement.

Ambassador Deborah Bronnert arrived shortly after 10:30 (local time, 09:30 Greek time) at the Foreign Office as a small crowd chanted anti-British slogans and held placards reading “Britain is a terrorist state”.

Bronnert remained for about 30 minutes inside the ministry, a Reuters reporter at the scene said.

There was no immediate statement from either the Russian or the British side on the details of what was discussed.

It is recalled that the representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, stated that the ambassador was to be summoned regarding the attack that took place on Saturday with an unmanned aerial vehicle in Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014 from Ukraine.

Britain maintains that the charges are false. After the drone attack, Russia temporarily suspended its participation in the UN-brokered deal on grain exports through the Black Sea.
