Tanzania: Fisherman who saved lives after plane crash in Lake Victoria to be hired at fire service

The young fisherman starred in the rescue operation – A total of 22 passengers and two crew members were rescued.

A fisherman who saved passengers after the plane crash at Lake Victoriaon Sunday morning, will be hired in the fire department by order of its president Tanzania Samia Soulohou Hasan.

Majaliua Jackson shocked the public opinion of the country with the heroism he showed by rushing to save human lives when he realized that an aircraft had crashed into the waters of the lake.

The plane crash claimed the lives of 17 passengers and the two pilots of the fatal Precision Air flight. The aircraft, an ATR-42, had taken off from Dar es Salaam bound for Bukoba. It crashed into the waters of Lake Victoria at around 08:20 (local time), as it approached the airport where it was due to land.

The young fisherman rushed to the waters of the lake from the first moment and starred in the rescue operation. A total of 22 passengers and two crew members were rescued.

“This fisherman needs to be trained in rescue operations,” Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan told aides, ordering the interior ministry to give Jackson a job in the fire brigade.
